Parents.

Life is finite.
And this truth will hit you like a boulder, when you will be least prepared for it. And once it does, you will change permanently.
This reality exists, was realised by me, when one day out of nowhere my mom had a massive cardiac arrest, and then she was gone. It was so quick, it took me months to come to terms with this practical reality.
I am a non emotional person by make. Very strong internally. But losing a parent is hard. It affects you and the memories of the person who gave birth to you comes in waves.
One day while performing a full mouth implant case, I found myself thinking about my loving mother. And tears started flowing. This is how it is going to be.
We all are in an age bracket where parents have become old. They have finite time with us.
They will never ask for your time. They know you are busy with patients and practice and your own family.
But make a point you spend time with them. Fancy gifts, cars, materialistic things will never make them happy.
Spending time with you will.
Go for a drive with your dad someday. Put on old hindi songs while you drive and he talks about life.
Be with your mother in the kitchen someday, chop vegetables with her. Talk to her about that knee that was troubling her.
Believe me, as dentists we spend a lot of time in that 10*12 ft chamber of ours, worrying about work and patients.
But one day when you will pick up the phone to dial your mom’s number, and midway you will realise she is not there, these happy memories will really really help.
Very well said Dr Prateek ! Live in the moments and relish it before it becomes past ! Treasure things which money can not buy !
