Before starting a case, I always take an intraoral photograph of the tooth or the area that I will be treating.

This helps me in two ways.

One - It helps me communicate the problem with the tooth to the patient. When patients can see it on a large TV screen they understand it better. They are able to appreciate what we are trying to explain verbally. Had it not been for the photo everything would have depended on the limited imagination of the patient.

Two - It helps me improve as a clinician. Any dental problem can be solved with multiple options, 5 years down the line, that photograph and the results of my treatment when compared to each other, tell me how good or bad my decision was.

and one very important thing. Mobile photographs are thoroughly unprofessional. I feel a good DSLR is what is required to take good-quality pictures.
